Jesus . . . said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life” (John 8:12, nlt). The Lord went ahead of them. He guided them during the day with a pillar of cloud, and he provided light at night with a pillar of fire . . . (Exodus 13:21, nlt). The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it (John 1:4–5, nlt).
Lord Jesus, you are the light of the world, and if we will simply follow you, we won’t have to walk in darkness, because we will have the light that leads to life. Lord, you went ahead of your people Israel, you were the cloud at day and the fire at night, you were leading and guiding them for your Name’s sake, and you desire to do the exact same for us. Lord Jesus, you are God in expression. You gave life to everything that was created, and your life brought the light of life into this world. Without you Lord, there is only spiritual darkness, you are the light of the world and the light of life. You Lord, shine in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish your light.
You are the light. Outside of you is only darkness. Help us to see that Lord. Help us to rest in that. You are the light of life. In you is life, away from you is only darkness. We choose to rest in you, to stay in your presence. Thank you Lord for giving us life, true life, abundant life, the light of life. We rest in you Lord Jesus. In your name, amen.
